Little French Gulch, about the ½ way point for each of the two laps of the Firecracker 50 in Breckenridge Colorado. One of the tougher climbs around. While only about 1.1 miles in distance it averages 11.1% in grade with pitch ups as much as 30% topping out at about 11,300 ft in elevation. It is mostly composed of broken granite once blasted from a nearby mine. It is a trail with it’s very own mood, changing a bit every year when the winters bury it under many feet of snow, it slides and moves from side to side and downhill.
Most of the time there is some hike-a-bike involved, though I have ridden it once. I haven’t figured out how I did that.
On July 4, I’ll get to ride up this twice!
